My Experience at Foot Solutions

Today, I went to the Foot Solutions that just happens to be conveniently located near by — which is nice since there are only 2 located on this side of town.

They seemed very knowledgeable about the problem I am having with my heels and with the “self-diagnosed” shin splints. Agreed with me that the shin splints were probably caused as a result of my running different due to the heel problem.

The man that helped me explained that when we get older (he said that very gently) the many bones in our feet which are held together by cartilage and the like spread out when that cartilage and the other parts holding the bones together begin to loose some of their elasticity. That explains why my feet have gotten bigger over that past 10 years — they are spreading out. YIKES! Anyhow, as they spread out they also flatten out. That also explains the lost of arch support and the flat feet.

They had several different levels of solutions, the first being custom orthotics. The way they go about this is quite impressive but the cost is about $250.00. Not for me, not at this point. Most people who go this route go through a podiatrist receiving a prescription which is then filled by the qualified staff at Foot Solutions. The receipt is then turned in by the recipient to their insurance company and they are reimbursed in full or in part depending on their insurance company’s policies.

Another solution, over-the-counter orthotics that range from $25.00 – 65.00. That’s more like it. I tried on 3 different over-the-counter orthotics with my running shoes and chose the $35.00 pair. They are very comfortable and give a lot of arch support which I hope will completely alleviate the problems I am having.

I don’t think these last 2 pairs of shoes, Filas, have the same good arch support that the Nikes I have worn up until when I purchase the Filas had. The next time I purchase shoes, arch support will be a BIG selling point.
