Seattle first market for Starbucks’ test of Clover coffee brewing

Ten Seattle locations will be the test market for Starbucks Corp.’s new Clover coffee brewing system, which allows a barista to deliver one individual cup of coffee at a time [small-batch coffee].

The Seattle coffee giant (NASDAQ: SBUX) bought the Clover system when it bought Coffee Equipment Co., of Seattle, in March for an undisclosed price. Starbucks said it will expand the Clover system to store locations in Boston and San Francisco “in the coming months.”

In September, Starbucks said it will feature coffees from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Tanzania and Zambia with the Clover brewing system.

“We committed to our customers that we would reinvent coffee, and once they taste coffee brewed from the Clover we know they will want to come back for more,” said Aimee Johnson, vice president, Starbucks Strategic Coffee Initiatives, in a statement.
